Our Safety Commitment

Novi Freight Forwarders is committed to implement and maintain a safety and compliance program as well as monitoring the performance of its safety and compliance through sets of established KPIs. As part of the program, all fleet vehicles are required to be equipped with sets of safety equipment according to applicable federal, state and municipal safety, and FedEx Ground Safe Driving Standards. All personnel and drivers shall be qualified to the DOT requirements and shall be fully trained to be able to operate vehicle equipment.

Fleet Vehicle Safety Solutions

Novi Freight Forwarders’ tractors used in operations will hold one of the following well established Forward Collision Mitigation Technology system (FCAM):

Detroit Assurance 5.0 safety systems for Freightliner Tractors

Through radar and a proprietary high-definition camera system, Detroit Assurance 5.0 provides optimum on-road safety, integrating seamlessly into the Freightliner new Cascadia® equipped with a Detroit™ powertrain. Using fused technology, the bumper-mounted radar and the windshield-mounted HD camera communicate with the ABS brakes, engine, and transmission in real time. The system tracks up to 40 objects at once and identifies the top six by level of threat while refreshing 200 times per second. Detroit Assurance 5.0 offers unprecedented safety features for advanced on-road protection which are described below.

Active Brake Assist 5.0 (ABA 5.0)

Active Brake Assist 5.0 (ABA 5.0) is always on, detecting the distances to objects ahead in its path, calculating speed, and determining if a warning or braking action is necessary. In addition, ABA 5.0 features full braking on stationary and moving objects. The camera and radar signals are fused together for greater object recognition, which allows for enhanced braking capabilities

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

ACC automatically adjusts your truck’s cruising speed to maintain a safe following distance—3.6 seconds by default on the new Cascadia—from other vehicles in its path, allowing the truck to remain in cruise control longer. The following distance can be optionally adjusted between 2.4 and 3.6 seconds within the interactive dash display. ACC now works in stop-and-go traffic. If the vehicle in front comes to a stop, the new Cascadia will also come to a full stop— 0 mph—and hold indefinitely. If the vehicle in front starts to move within two seconds of coming to a stop, then the truck will resume moving at a safe following distance. If the complete stop is longer than two seconds, then the driver must push the throttle or press set/resume. ACC to 0 mph helps reduce driver fatigue, which improves the overall driver experience.

Bendix® Wingman® Advanced™ for Volvo/Mack Tractors

Novi Freight Forwarders Mack Tractors are equipped with most advanced series of the Bendix systems “Bendix® Wingman® Advanced™. The Bendix® Wingman® Advanced™ system is the latest innovation for commercial vehicles from the industry leader in active braking technologies – Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems.

Bendix Wingman Advanced offers adaptive cruise control and more

Braking features along with collision mitigation technology

The fleet benefits from a potent combination of active safety technologies that can help drivers in collisions, roll-overs, and loss-of-control situations. In addition, the system can provide data, to help keep the company in the know about what’s happening out on the road.

When the distance between driver’s truck and the vehicle they’re following starts to close, Bendix Wingman Advanced provides the driver following distance alerts and, if necessary, will apply the brakes to help the driver potentially avoid the collision, or help reduce its severity. Unique to Bendix Wingman Advanced are stationary object alerts. These alerts give the driver a warning (up to 3.0 seconds) of a metallic object, such as a stalled car, blocking the lane of travel.

The Bendix Wingman Advanced system helps our fleet in two significant ways. First, by helping drivers potentially avoid rear-end collisions or, at least, help reduce their severity, which results in fewer accidents and less accident-related costs. Second, the system can help drivers stay in cruise control longer, which can result in significant fuel savings.

ELD (Electronic Logging Device)

Novi Freight Forwarders are equipped with Fully -Compliant Trimble ELD Devices.  Trimble devices are mounted on the front dash and drivers use their FedEx ID to log into the system. The system is very  user-friendly interface which also allows drivers to maximize productivity and focus on driving, not Hours of Service.

ELD electronic device  monitors vehicle’s usage, to record driving hours and other pertinent data. Once the Trimble ELD device is attached to a CMV’s diagnostic port, it synchronizes with the vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) to automatically record the Hours of Service (HOS), Records of Duty status (RODs), and other information required by the DOT. ELD monitors a vehicle’s engine to obtain data on whether or not the engine is running, if the vehicle is moving, how many miles have been driven, and the duration of the engine operation. ELD records includes authorized user or driver information, duty status changes (i.e., on duty, driving, off duty), the driver’s daily record certification, and driver logon and logoff events. Trimble  ELDs transmit all this information to a fleet telematics system, allowing fleet managers to track and review the Hours-of-Service status and generate reports

VEDR and Smart DashCam

Novi Freight Forwarders Tractors are equipped with KeepTruckin Dual-Facing Smart Dashcams. The Smart Dashcam is connected to the KeepTruckin ELD via USB port. When a critical event such as a hard brake or accident is detected, the Smart Dashcam captures a HD video clip and transmits it to the KeepTruckin Dashboard for real-time viewing. One camera record what happens on the road ahead, while the second camera records the driver. A dual-facing camera can help fleet managers identify drowsy or distracted drivers, giving them full visibility.

One of the advantages of using KeepTruckin system is that you get one integrated platform across compliance, telematics and video monitoring. Videos are automatically associated with a driver based on ELD data. By integrating hours of service with video monitoring, you get the context needed to make a better judgment of exactly what took place.

Other Advantages of the KeepTruckin system

Simplified IFTA calculation

It simplifies IFTA calculations if your ELD calculates the distance each vehicle travels in each jurisdiction and presents detailed trip reports.

Improved driver behavior and fleet safety

KeepTruckin ELDs can also help identify drivers with risky behavior, such as rapid acceleration, speeding, hard braking, and hard cornering. Identification of at-risk drivers is the first step to improving fleet safety.
